Prescription and Medication Errors
Prescription and Medication Errors
Prescription medications are powerful tools to help patients cure illnesses and maintain their health – when used correctly. However, when physicians, pharmacists or other medical professionals make an error in ordering, administering or prescribing medications, the results can be life changing and tragic.
Each year thousands of people are injured, over medicated and wrongly killed due to medication errors that are avoidable and preventable.
Medication errors take place in countless ways, which can include:
- Failure to explain and warn about drug side effects
- Failure to review patient’s allergies and other prescription and over-the-counter
- Physicians prescribing medications that interact dangerously with other conditions or drugs the patient may have or may be taking
- Pharmacists mislabeling medications
- Wrongly prescribed medications
- Nursing mistakes, such as giving the wrong medication to a patient in the hospital
